Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Global Wind Harvests Incorporated (Schenectady, New York) and Acciona Wind Energy USA (Chicago, Illinois), a subsidiary of Acciona Energia (Pamplona, Spain), are forming a partnership to build four windfarms in Illinois. Three of the windfarms are will be located in central Illinois and will each have a power capacity of about 150 megawatts (MW). The remaining windfarm will be in northern Illinois and will have a capacity of about 600 MW. All four windfarms will have a capacity of approximately 1.05 gigawatts.
The windfarms in central Illinois will be located in Adams and Morgan counties. So far, the Camp Point Windfarm located between Golden and Clayton and the Mendon/Ursa Windfarm in Adams County are furthest along in terms of construction.
The Bureau County Windfarm in northern Illinois will be located in the northeastern portion of Bureau County. This 600-MW windfarm will be built in multiple phases, possibly starting construction by 2013. This windfarm alone will cost approximately $1.2 billion.
