Fluor Signs Agreement to Provide EPC Services for 800-Mile Power Transmission Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Last week, Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Plains and Eastern Clean Line LLC, an affiliate of Clean Line Energy Partners LLC (Houston, Texas), to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for construction of a transmission line running from Oklahoma to Tennessee.

The 800-mile high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission line will run from Texas County in the Oklahoma Panhandle to Memphis, Tennessee. The project is currently awaiting permitting and financial approval. When completed, the transmission line will move primarily wind-generated power from Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma to the southeastern U.S. Pike Electric Corporation (Mount Airy, North Carolina) will act as subcontractor to Fluor on the project.

Many renewable energy projects are delayed or not built because of a lack of power transmission infrastructure to get the power to the grid. Clean Line focuses on providing transmission solutions for these renewable projects.

As part of our Power Industry Database, Industrial Info is tracking more than $9 billion in planned Clean Line transmission projects. In addition to the Oklahoma-to-Tennessee power transmission line, the company is performing studies for the 574-mile Grain Belt Transmission Line, a 600-kilovolt HVDC transmission line running from western Kansas to Missouri. For additional information, see November 11, 2011, article - Grain Belt Express Transmission Project Seeks to 'Break the Mold'. The Kansas Corporation Commission recently gave unanimous approval for Clean Line to act as a public utility, which paves the way for Clean Line to construct the project in the state.
