Greater Ohio Ethanol Begins Turning Dirt on $80 Million Fuel Ethanol Plant in Ohio

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Cooperative investor- owned Greater Ohio Ethanol LLC (Lima, Ohio) is moving forward with pre-construction activity on a new $80 million fuel ethanol plant just south of Lima, Ohio. Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 54 million gallons per year fuel ethanol plant that will convert about 20 million bushels of corn annually into the renewable fuel. The plant will also produce an estimated 180,000 tons per year of dried distiller’s grains, a by-product of ethanol production used as a feed additive and 140,000 tons of recaptured carbon dioxide from the plants fermentation process.

The company selected the combination of ForeRunner Corporation (Lakewood, Colorado) and Benchmark Design USA (Clearwater, Florida) to provide the ethanol process technology. Walbridge Southern (Monroe, North Carolina) was selected as the general contractor for the project. Construction is expected to take about twelve to fourteen months, with a target date for completion in November 2006. The official groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place before the Christmas holidays at the plant site located in South Lima, Ohio.

Once the facility is operational, it’s expected to create about 30 full-time jobs and the plant will operate seven days a week, 24 hours per day for 350 days of the year.

Greater Ohio Ethanol (GO-Ethanol) was formed in February 2003, with the vision to create an ethanol industry in Ohio and the surrounding states. The GO-Ethanol vision is to capitalize on the unique geographic advantages Ohio has for the emerging east coast demand. One plant is already operational in the state and ten additional projects are in various stages of early development.
