New Poultry Processing Plant on the Horizon in Nova Scotia

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Maple Lodge Farms (Brampton, Ontario), Canada's largest private poultry-processing firm, has joined forces with ACA Co-operative Limited (Kentville, Nova Scotia), which is a network of poultry farmers, to build a large poultry-processing plant in Kentville. The initiative involves a $46 million investment for a plant that will have the capacity to process about 12,000 chickens per hour and 2,500 turkeys per hour. The company is pursuing building permits and finalizing agreements with producers.

Plans call for the renovation and expansion of a 54,000-square-foot building in the Kentville Industrial Park. Construction is set to begin at the end of the year, and the plant could be operational May 2012. When operational, ACA will close and shift production from a facility in Minas.

The company plans to utilize local and regional suppliers and construction contractors to complete the construction phase. Mallot Creek Group Incorporated (Elora, Ontario) is providing preliminary design for the building renovation and processing equipment.
