Biden Appoints New Head of FERC - President Joe Biden has promoted Willie Phillips to head the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the White House said on Friday. Biden had appointed Phillips as acting FERC chair in early 2023. After the announcement on Phillips, FERC said Allison Clements, the other Democrat on the panel who climate activists had wanted to lead FERC, will not seek a second term. Her term expires June 30, but Clements could stay until the end of 2024. (Reuters)

Petrobras' Fourth-Quarter Sales Steady, Production Up - Sales from Brazilian state-run energy company Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in last year's fourth quarter totaled 3.07 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe/d), the firm said last week, matching its sales from the year-ago period. The sales cover crude oil, natural gas and refined products, according to a company statement. Petrobras' oil and gas output, meanwhile, reached 2.94 million boe/d in the final quarter of 2023, or up nearly 11% from the same period a year earlier, company data showed. (Reuters)
FUEL CONSUMPTION
U.S. Road Travel Hit New Record in 2023 - Travel on U.S. roads in 2023 rose 2.1% to 3.263 trillion miles, setting a new yearly record and topping pre-COVID 19 levels for the first time, the U.S. Transportation Department said last week. Road travel overall last year was up 67.5 billion miles and up by 2.2% in December, according to preliminary data. In 2019, U.S. motorists logged 3.261 trillion miles for the year, before driving sharply declined as COVID-19 lockdowns were imposed in early 2020. (Reuters)
