Poland's Opole Power Station Awards Contract for Nitrogen-Oxide Control System

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Poland's PGE Gornictwo i Energetyka Spolka Akcyjna awarded a $25 million contract to a consortium led by Remak Rozruch SA for the installation of a nitrogen-oxide (NOx) control system in one of the operational units at the Opole Power Station.

The coal-fired facility is located in Brzezie, nine kilometers north of Opole City, and has a total output of 1,492 megawatts (MW). At present, the plant is equipped with four Zamech Elblag steam turbines, four Dolmel BBC licensed generators and four Rafako boilers that were commissioned between 1993 and 1997.

At the same time, Nalco Mobotec Incorporated (Walnut Creek, California), through its subsidiary Mobotec Europe AB (Goteborg, Sweden), will supply the engineering and manufacturing technology for the NOx control system to be installed in one of its units, the main components of which will be manufactured by Sefako SA. The technology to be used is Nalco Mobotec's Rotating Opposed Fire Air system and the ROTAMIX system. The project is scheduled for completion for the first quarter of 2012.

PGE Gornictwo i Energetyka Spolka Akcyjna, formerly BOT GiE SA, is a Polish holding company created in 2004 that owns and operates Opole Power Station. The company is a major electricity and heat producer in Poland, with an integrated business strategy in the energy sector. In 2009, the company also expects to open a bidding process to build two new 1000-MW coal-fired units equipped with two pulverized-coal combustion-boilers at the Opole Power Station. The units are scheduled to be commissioned in 2014 and 2015.
