Shin-Etsu Silicones of America (Akron, Ohio), a subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Chemical Company Limited (TOKYO: JP:4063) (Tokyo, Japan), is nearing completion of a specialty silanes unit addition at the site of a sister company, Shintech Incorporated (Houston, Texas), in Freeport, Texas.
Construction for the approximately $50 million project began last year and was managed by the project owner. When commercial operations begin later this year, the new unit is expected to producer nearly 10,000 tons per year of specialty silanes, including polysulfide silane, targeted for use in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.
