Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Last month, AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) (Arlington, VA) signed an agreement with Stone & Webster, Incorporated, a subsidiary of The Shaw Group (NYSE:SGR) (Baton Rouge, LA), to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for the completion of the 730 mega-watt (MW) Wolf Hollow project in Texas. AES replaced the original turn-key contractor, NEPCO (Bothell, WA), a business unit of now bankrupt Enron, some fourteen months after the start of construction. Despite the loss of its original contractor, AES is confident that they will meet the commercial operation date set for October 1, 2002.
Wolf Hollow is a 730MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant located thirty-five miles southwest of Fort Worth in Granbury. The plant will utilize two Mitsubishi 501G gas turbines, a steam turbine, and two Deltak heat recovery steam generators. Half of the plant's output will be sold to Exelon through a 20-year power purchase agreement, with the remaining output going to the open market. Final testing and commissioning of equipment is underway in an effort for first fire this coming July.
The Shaw Group Inc. is the world's only vertically integrated provider of complete piping systems and comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction services to the power generation industry. While the majority of Shaw's backlog is attributable to the power generation industry, the company also does work in the process industries, including petrochemical, chemical, and refining, and the environmental and infrastructure sectors.
Stone & Webster has been responsible for the development, consulting, engineering, and construction of nuclear, fossil-fueled, geothermal, and hydroelectric power generation projects. S&W has a portfolio of power projects spanning over 50 countries, six continents, and 112 years.
