Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 1 at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant, which is located in Athens, Alabama, powered down Tuesday night and was taken offline after a leak that was discovered in the drywall. The station is owned and operated by Tennessee Valley Authority (NYSE:TVE) (TVA) (Knoxville, Tennessee).
Plant officials are trying to determine the extent of the leak. Officials said that if the needed repairs are minimal, the unit should return to service by early next week.
