U.S. Crude Oil Stocks Rise - U.S. crude oil stocks rose as oil refiners took in less oil, following extreme cold weather that knocked out utilization last month, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday. Crude oil inventories rose by 5.5 million barrels to 427.4 million barrels in the week ending February 2, the EIA said. U.S. gasoline stocks fell by 3.1 million barrels in the week to 251 million barrels. Distillate stockpiles fell by 3.2 million barrels in the week to 127.6 million barrels, the EIA data showed. Woodside, Santos Scrap Merger Talks - Australia's Woodside Energy Group (NYSE:WDS) (Perth) and Santos (Adelaide) said on Wednesday they had ended talks to create a possible A$80 billion (US$52 billion) global oil and gas giant, and Santos flagged it would look for other ways to bolster its value. Woodside, which is more than twice as large as Santos by revenue and market capitalization, said it would only pursue a deal that would clearly benefit its shareholders. The talks, first announced in December, fell apart as the two companies could not agree on a valuation level, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the matter who could not be named discussing confidential information. Britain's Centrica Agrees to LNG Deal with Spain's Repsol - British energy supplier Centrica (Windsor, England) has agreed to purchase 1 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Spain's Repsol SA (Madrid) between 2025 and 2027, Centrica said on Wednesday. (Reuters)
