V-Vehicle Plans Environmentally Friendly Auto Plant for Louisiana

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--V-Vehicle Company (San Diego, California), a new American car company, is planning to build an environmentally friendly automotive manufacturing plant, estimated at $248 million, in Monroe, Louisiana.

Paving and demolition of existing structures are under way and will include the renovation of an existing 325,000-square-foot building, followed by a 425,000-square-foot building expansion. The existing building, located on a 189-acre site, was formerly owned by Guide Corporation (Pendleton, Indiana), which has been closed for several years. The plant will enable the company to produce and assemble environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient cars that will cost roughly $10,000. Building construction of the new plant will begin in a few months, with overall completion slated for the fall of 2010. Approximately 1,400 jobs will be created.

Gray Construction Company, located in Birmingham, Alabama, was selected as the prime contractor to provide design and construction services for the new plant. Denmon Engineering, located in Monroe, Louisiana, provided civil engineering and land surveying for the new facility, and PPM Consultants, also located in Monroe, provided environmental and engineering consulting services. CKGP/PW & Associates of Troy, Michigan, will provide process and manufacturing engineering support.

V-Vehicle Company was founded in 2006 as a car company that will produce a fuel-efficient, high-quality car for the U.S. market and re-establish American leadership in the automotive industry. This will be the company's first manufacturing facility.
