Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company (ZTPC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Company Limited (CEEC) (Beijing), completed the erection of the last piece of the boiler protection plate for Phase I of the Shaoxing Jiangbin Gas-fired Cogeneration Project on March 14, 2012. The erection of the steel structure for the waste heat recovery boiler is complete, and the project is ready to kick off module erection in the next stage, the CEEC announced on March 15.
The project is in the Jiangbin Industry Park of Shaoxing City, in eastern China's Zhejiang province. The project has a total planned capacity of four F-class, gas-fired, combined-cycle units to be built in phases. Two 452-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle units will be built in Phase I, with a total investment of about $480 million. Zhejiang Datang International Shaoxing Jiangbin Gas Power Company Limited (Shaoxing, Zhejiang), a joint venture of Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing) and Shaoxing Wine Group Company Limited (Shaoxing, Zhejiang), will be responsible for the development and future operation of the project, while Zhejiang Electric Power Design Institute (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) will be responsible for the design and engineering, and Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) will be responsible for the supply of the required gas turbine main equipment.
Early in October 2010, China Datang Corporation (Beijing) signed the agreement with the local government to jointly develop the project, taking the opportunity in the construction of the nation's "west-to-east" gas transmission program. In June 2011, the project was listed in the gas-fired cogeneration rapid development plan, which was launched by the Zhejiang province to solve the power shortage in Zhejiang. In December 2011, Phase I of the project received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Zhejiang Province.
Construction of the project kicked off on December 20, 2011. According to the schedule, the first unit will begin operations at the end of 2012, and the second unit will begin operations in the first half of 2012. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply about 2.87 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 1.6 million metric tons of steam (rated capacity 150 ton per hour for each unit) every year.
