SUGAR LAND--February 20, 2014--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A significant coal ash spill is still being cleaned up and contained near Eden, North Carolina. The spill was the result of a failed stormwater pipe running under the ash pond at the Dan River Steam Station. The plant is owned and monitored by Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina). The plant went into commercial operation in 1949 and has been closed since April, 2012.
