Costs for Kemper County IGCC Plant Soar to $6.1 Billion

SUGAR LAND--January 16, 2015--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Mississippi Power Company's Kemper County integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) generator, which is under construction in Mississippi, is now estimated to cost $6.1 billion, nearly $2 billion more than originally estimated, according to the most recent progress report the utility filed with the Mississippi Public Service Commission (MPSC) (Jackson, Mississippi). The plant is now scheduled to begin operating in the first half of 2016, Jeff Shepard, a spokesman for Mississippi Power (Gulfport, Mississippi), told Industrial Info.
