Areva and Fresno Nuclear Energy Group to Develop EPR Nuclear Reactors in Central Valley, California

SUGAR LAND--January 6, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--French nuclear power company Areva SA (EPA:CEI) (Paris) has signed a letter of intent with the Fresno Nuclear Energy Group (FNEG) to cooperate in the development of one or two EPR-type nuclear reactors in Central Valley, California. The FNEG was formed by a group of local investors whose mission is "to explore the viability of building a community-owned nuclear power plant." The group hopes that in addition to providing low-cost electricity and reducing the dependence on foreign oil, it can use nuclear power to deliver electricity to power desalination plants to cleanse the groundwater, providing more useable water for agricultural purposes.
