U.S. Coal Exports Down Briefly Due to Baltimore Bridge Collapse

April 11, 2024--Written by Daniel Graeber for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As Baltimore is the second-largest hub for coal exports, energy officials said the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge could have a greater impact on foreign deliveries than expected.

The cargo ship Dali struck a support pillar on the Key bridge last month, causing the portion of the bridge over the Patapsco River in the Baltimore metropolitan area to collapse in a matter of seconds. The incident left six people dead and disrupted activity at one of the busiest ports on the Eastern seaboard.
