Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking slightly more than $1.5 billion in planned first-quarter 2020 Industrial Manufacturing project starts in the U.S. Southeast market region, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. The region is gaining a foothold in the U.S. automotive sector, and auto-related projects lead in terms of project value, at $441 million.
Among the largest auto-related projects set to kick off in the region in the upcoming quarter is Hitachi Limited's (Tokyo, Japan) expansion of its auto parts manufacturing plant in Monroe, Georgia. The project entails constructing a building addition to expand production capacity of power steering equipment and valve timing controls. The $100 million project is expected to kick off early in the quarter and be completed by the end of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Smyrna, Tennessee, on the southeast outskirts of Nashville, Topre Corporation (Tokyo) will expand its automotive stamping plant by constructing a 47,245-square-foot press shop to increase automotive stampings and body structure assemblies for Nissan, Honda and Toyota automobiles. The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
The fabricated metal goods sector also features high in the region's project activity, and among these projects is CC1 Incorporated's (Coral Gables, Florida) construction of a grassroot aluminum can manufacturing plant in Winter Haven, Florida. The project is the first phase of a planned $120 million plan and includes constructing a 300,000-square-foot plant with production lines to produce recyclable aluminum cans. Roeslein & Associates Incorporated (Saint Louis, Missouri) is providing design-build services on the project, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
No region's project activity would be complete without some data center projects, and in Douglasville, Georgia, west of Atlanta, CyrusOne LLC (Dallas, Texas) plans to begin construction on Phase I of a data center project. The first phase entails constructing a 146,000-square-foot building featuring 16.7 megawatts of power to provide enhanced colocation services to the region. The $80 million project is expected to be completed later in 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Projects at ports also feature in the region's planned activity, and at the Port of Miami in Florida, the port authority will build a new cruise ship terminal, which will include not only a new bulkhead with apron, but also security inspection, and luggage and intermodal areas. The project is expected to be completed in late 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Several smaller manufacturing projects also can be seen in the region's upcoming activity. In Ocean Springs, Mississippi, American Bait Works Company (D'Iberville, Mississippi) plans to construct a grassroot fishing tackle manufacturing plant. The 75,000-square-foot building will feature office, manufacturing and warehouse space to manufacture fishing rods, reels and tackle. Doug Watt Incorporated (Greenacres, Florida) is the construction manager on the project, which is expected to be completed in third-quarter 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
