Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China Nuclear Industry No. 23 Engineering Company Limited (CNI23) (Yichang, Hubei), a subsidiary of China Nuclear Engineering Corporation (CNEC) (Beijing), completed the erection of the Ring 2 steam generator for Unit 1 of China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Changjiang Nuclear Power Project in Hainan on November 13, 2012. The completion of the first steam generator for the project has paved the way for the erection of the main follow-up equipment, according to a recent announcement from the CNEC.

As reported, the steam generator is the first heavy equipment erected in the main circuit of the nuclear island for Changjiang Nuclear Power Project. The main body of the steam generator is about 21.1 meters long, with a maximum diameter of about 4.48 meters and a net weight of about 340 metric tons. The steam generator was shipped to the heavy duty port of Changjiang Nuclear Power Project on November 5, 2012. The erection of the Ring 2 steam generator for Unit 1 began in the early morning of November 13 and was completed in about five hours.

The Changjiang Nuclear Power Project, located in Tangxing Village, Haiwei Town of the Changjiang Li Nationality autonomous region in southern China's Hainan province, is jointly invested by the CNNC (51%) and China Huaneng Group (Beijing) (49%). The project has a total planned capacity of four large-scale nuclear power units, each of 650 megawatts (MW). Two 650-MW, pressurized water reactor-based, CNNC CNP650 nuclear power units will be built in Phase I with a total investment of about $3 billion.

Civil construction of the project began in early 2010. The erection of the nuclear island for Unit 1 began on November 28, 2011.

According to the schedule, units 1 and 2 of the project will be put into operation in an interval of 10 months in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
