Duke Energy Prepares for Arrival of First Turbine for 1,200MW Moapa Energy in Nevada

The following is an Advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). A $600 million investment to construct a 1,200MW power plant in Nevada by Duke Energy North America, a unit of Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) (Charlotte, NC), is a sure bet to come online next summer. Located twenty miles north of Las Vegas, the Moapa Energy Station is one of the largest merchant power plant projects under construction in Nevada that is scheduled to come online before 2005.

Groundbreaking of the natural gas-fired combined-cycle plant took place last October. Presently, the sidewalls of the first heat recovery steam generator are being erected and underground piping is underway. Construction will peak, when the first gas turbine generator arrives on site this summer. Startup of the first 600MW block is scheduled for April 2003 with the second block to follow two months later. Moapa Energy is being built by Duke Energy affiliate Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD), who is providing engineering, procurement and construction services.

Formed in 1985, Duke Energy is an international energy provider that has electrical generation & natural gas transmission & distribution assets worldwide. Duke Energy is a Fortune 100 company and is involved in both regulated and non-regulated energy businesses. Duke Energy North America (DENA) is Duke Energy's Houston-based merchant energy company.
