Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, imports 80% of its electricity from South Africa's ESKOM, which is in a financial and operational crisis. To meet its growing demand for electricity and reduce its dependence on power from South Africa, the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) has begun a procurement process for 40 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic power capacity, followed by 40 MW of biomass power, in the near future. The current installed capacity of the country is about 60 MW, which is supplied by four operational hydro power stations. Click here for the list of power stations.
