Reports related to this article:

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $3.5 billion in planned Chemical Processing Industry project starts from October through December this year. In the fourth quarter of 2016, Industrial Info tracked $4.8 billion in U.S. Chemical Industry project starts. With more than $2.5 billion in planned projects, Texas leads the rest of the U.S. for planned project starts.

Among the largest projects planned in the quarter is Formosa Plastics Corporation USA's (Point Comfort, Texas) plans to construct an ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol unit addition at its plant in Point Comfort, on the Texas Gulf Coast. The facility will produce approximately 1 billion to 1.2 billion pounds per year of ethylene oxide as feedstock for the integrated production of ethylene glycol. An air separation unit that will produce approximately 1,200 tons per day of oxygen and nitrogen is being constructed to support the new unit. Construction of the ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol unit is expected to be wrapped up before the end of 2018. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol unit and air separation unit.

Also along the Texas Gulf Coast, Braskem America Incorporated (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) plans to begin construction on a polypropylene unit addition at its facility in La Porte, Texas. The unit will add 992 million pounds per year of polypropylene production to the existing plant, using W.R. Grace & Company's (Charleston, West Virginia) UNIPOL technology. The project is set to kick off before the end of the year and be completed in the first quarter of 2020. Linde Engineering North America Incorporated (Houston, Texas) is performing engineering, procurement and construction on the project. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Rounding out the top three projects in Texas according to value is OCI Beaumont LLC's (Nederland, Texas) planned methanol outside battery limits (OSBL) plant expansions in Beaumont. The project will include a wastewater treatment plant, oil tanks and a new ammonia loop at the plant. Orascom E&C USA Incorporated (Beaumont, Texas) is performing construction management on the project, which is planned to kick off next month and take a little more than year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Outside Texas, one of the largest projects proposed for the fourth quarter is Camden Recycling LLC's (Camden, Indiana) grassroot plastic recycling plant in Indiana. The plant will process 1 million tons per year of waste plastic into feedstock for an integrated biofuel production plant and recycled plastic products manufacturing. Construction on the 300,000-square-foot building is planned to be wrapped up in the second quarter of 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the recycling plant and biofuel production plant.

In Kentucky, Cabot Corporation (Boston, Massachusetts) is planning to construct a fumed silica plant on a brownfield site in Carrolton. The facility is being constructed on 11.5 acres leased from Dow Corning Corporation (Midland, Michigan). Dow Corning will supply silicon tetrachloride as feedstock to the plant, which will produce an estimated 8,820 tons per year of fumed silica, most of which will be returned to Dow Corning as a silicone product additive. Site preparation has begun on the project, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
