Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Mexico's state-owned petroleum company Pemex Refinacion (D.F., Mexico) is developing a large-scale project that involves the construction of several pipelines and a storage terminal. These will serve the fuels circuit when the new Bicentenario Refinery in Tula begins operations.

The Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP) (D.F., Mexico) is developing the detailed engineering for this project, which involves the construction of three pipes, plus related pump stations and a storage terminal. The longest is a 36-inch petroleum pipe that is designed to transport crude oil from a new pump station in Nuevo Teapa, through four pump stations along the line in the cities of El Tejar, Corregidora, Miguel Hidalgo and Morelos, to the Bicentenario Refinery.

The second pipe is an 18-inch-diameter, multi-purpose pipe, which aims is to transport 120,000 barrels per day of gasoline and diesel, products obtained in the new refinery, to a new terminal for the storage of diesel and gasoline that will be built in the southeastern area of the state of Mexico. There is still no exact site selected for the new storage facility.

Pemex also is expected to construct a 14-inch-diameter gas pipeline to supply the Bicentenario Refinery with natural gas from Tlapanaloya.

The construction strategy will be made after the selection of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms. Although the IMP has performed basic to detailed engineering, the selected company will have to review the detailed engineering for each stretch.

Pemex Refinacion expects to begin construction in the third quarter of 2014 and complete the whole project by the end of 2016.
