World Bank's $1.1 Billion Loan Benefits Pakistan Power and Water Needs
JOHANNESBURG--March 23, 2012--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The World Bank will bring much-needed benefits to Pakistan's power and agriculture sectors with project loans totaling $1.1 billion. The expansion of the Tarbela hydropower dam will add 1,410 megawatts (MW) to the national power grid and will aid the introduction of modern irrigation techniques that will boost the agriculture sector. The existing hydro dam has the design capacity to generate 3,748 MW of power and is the largest earth-filled dam in the world.
