Attachment: Aust chem 1019
Starting July 1, 2020, Australia will have a new scheme to import and manufacture industrial chemicals. The National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) will be replaced by Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), which will be based on likely levels of chemical risk.
There will be six categories for introduction, with different requirements for each level of chemical risk:
1) Listed introductions
2) Exempted introductions
3) Reported introductions
4) Assessed introductions
5) Commercial evaluation introductions
6) Exceptional circumstances introductions
The new grouping for industrial chemicals aims to evaluate environmental impacts and public health and safety.
