The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued an operating license for Unit #01 at the country's 5.6-gigawatt (GW) Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. The plant will have four APR-1400 pressurized water reactors, which will drive four 1,400-megawatt (MW) steam turbine generator sets. Once the four units are operational, the plant is estimated to generate 25% of the country's electricity, and will offset more than 20 million tonnes of greenhouse emissions per year.
