Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Fujian No.1 Electric Power Construction Company (FEPC1) (Fuzhou, Fujian) completed the erection of the first main powerhouse steel beam (GZ0-1) for Unit 4 of the Hongshan Thermal Power Plant's 2,000-megawatt (MW) Phase II expansion project on December 8, 2012. As the first 1,000-MW unit contracted by FEPC1, it has achieved a new milestone, according to an announcement from the FEPC1, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (PCCC) (Beijing), on December 10.

The shifting of the project from underground construction to aboveground construction will create favorable conditions for future milestones, such as the main powerhouse roofing and the progression from civil construction to mechanical and electrical erection.

The Hongshan Thermal Power Plant is located in Hongshan Town, Shishi City, in eastern China's Fujian province, which is about 12 kilometers from Shishi downtown. The power plant has a total planned capacity of 5,200 MW, including two 600-MW, coal-fired units built in Phase I that were commissioned in January and March 2011.

The Phase II expansion project is invested by Fujian Hongshan Thermal Power Company Limited (Shishi, Fujian), a joint venture of China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (Beijing) and Fujian Energy Group Company Limited (Fuzhou, Fujian). According to plans, the project will be furnished with two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices. It is also the first 1,000-MW project to be furnished with a heat supply function in Fujian. Turbine, generator and Boiler 3's main equipment will be supplied by DongFang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan). As per schedule, both units of the project will be put into operation by the end of 2013.
