Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking 130 active Power Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects valued at $6.85 billion that are under way or set to kick off in the U.S. Northeast market region, which includes Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware.

Industrial Info will present details of these and other projects and trends at its upcoming Market Outlook & Networking Event in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The event will be held May 11, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Radisson Valley Forge. After the presentations by our industry experts, Industrial Info will hold a networking session with complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres, allowing you valuable time to meet and discuss the presentation with our experts and your industry peers.

The power scene around the U.S. Northeast is changing as U.S. nuclear reactors face closures due to economics, and cheap, abundant shale gas becomes available from the Marcellus Shale. Also in the works are potential offshore wind developments, although these remain several years in the future, if they can make their way through regulatory approval.

Among the largest T&D projects being tracked by Industrial Info is the $1 billion West Point Transmission Project, a 345-kilovolt (kV) submersive cable that will deliver power from a substation in Athens, New York, to a substation in Buchanan, New York, near the retiring Indian Point Nuclear Power Station, which is set to close by April 2021. For more information, see January 10, 2017, news article - Entergy Strikes Deal to Close Indian Point Nuclear Plant. The project is set kick off in 2020 and be completed in the summer of 2022.

Also on the books is the $180 million is the 320-kV Luyster Creek Convertor Station in Astoria, New York. The project is being developed by Transmission Developers Incorporated (Albany, New York) and is set to kick off in the third quarter of this year, taking about a year to complete. AECOM (NYSE:ACM) (Los Angeles, California) is performing engineering work on the project.

While perhaps a remote possibility, one of the projects adding significantly to the overall value of T&D projects in the Northeast region is Neptune Regional Transmission System LLC's (Fairfield, Connecticut) plan to bring to bring offshore energy to the grid. The company is in the early planning stages to run 155 miles of 320-kV subsea transmission line along the coastline of New Jersey from a potential offshore wind energy station. The project has a total investment value of $1.7 billion, although the probability of the project actually going through remains low, as offshore wind power projects remain a controversial undertaking in the United States.
