Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to Industrial Info's North American Industrial Database, since the beginning of the year, 196 industrial plants have become operational in the U.S. These employ more than 18,700 people across 10 industrial markets, including Power, Terminals, Oil & Gas Transmission, Oil & Gas Production, Alternative Fuels, Chemical Processing, Metals & Minerals, Food & Beverage, Industrial Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical-Biotech.
The Food & Beverage Industry leads the way with 41 plants to become operational since the beginning of 2013. Earlier this year, Agro-Farma Incorporated (New Berlin, New York) began operations at a $100 million Greek yogurt processing plant in Twin Falls, Idaho. Nut processor Blue Diamond Growers Cooperative (Sacramento, California) began operations at an almond processing plant in Turlock, California.
A hot Oil & Gas sector has witnessed 39 facilities begin operations this year. This includes 26 pipeline compressors stations and 10 oil and gas processing plants. For example, DCP Midstream LLC (NYSE:DPM) (Denver, Colorado) began operations earlier this year at an $80 million natural gas processing plant in Edna, Texas. The cryogenic processing plant, with five 5,000-horsepower Caterpillar 3612 engine-driven compressors, will process 200 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day extracted from the Eagle Ford Shale.
There are also 24 Alternative Fuels Industry plants starting operations. Many of these are biodiesel and small pilot plants, as well as some plant restarts.
