Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Heilongjiang No.3 Thermal Power Construction Corporation (HPCC3) (Harbin, Heilongjiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), erected the first boiler steel beam for Unit 1 of the 700-megawatt (MW) Huaneng Yichun Cogeneration project on April 2, 2013. The erection for Unit 1 of the project has kicked off, according to an announcement from the CEEC on April 8.

The erection of the first steel beam was carried out by two large-scale cranes on the same morning. Prior to the erection, HPCC3 had completed the foundation concrete placement and preparation work for the erection of the steel frame. The Huaneng Yichun Cogeneration Power Plant, located at Jinshan Village of Wumahe District of Yichun City, in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, is invested by Huaneng Heilongjiang Power Generation Company Limited (Harbin, Heilongjiang), a subsidiary of Huaneng Power International Limited (600011.SH) (Beijing). Northeast Electric Power Design Institute (Changchun, Jilin), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering of the project.

The power plant has a total planned capacity of four 350-MW units to be built in phases. Two 350-MW, supercritical, coal-fired units will be built in Phase I. In January 2011, the Phase I project received approval from National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Site preparation for the project kicked off in October 2011, and construction of the project started in July 2012.

According to the schedule, both units will begin operations in 2014. The first unit is expected to begin operations in September 2014. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply heat for a total area of 12.5 million square meters, mainly including users in 4 districts of Yichun City: Yichun, Wumahe, Cuiluan and Youhao.
