Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 673-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Unit 3 at Thomas Hill Energy Center, which is located in Clifton Hill, Missouri, was shut down overnight after a water wall tube blew inside the boiler. The station is owned by Associated Electric Cooperative Incorporated (Springfield, Missouri) (AECI).
Plant officials said they already have analyzed the issue and have located the leak. The repair will resume when the boiler is sufficiently cooled, but the investigation into the cause will continue.
Officials anticipate returning the unit online Sunday, December 14, if there are no further delays.
The plant has three operational units with a total capacity of 1,153 MW when at full load. Units 1and 2 remain online and continue to generate at full load.
